Rosemarkie Beach & Garden Day!

beach day photo.jpg

HiMRA made the bold move of organising a beach and garden day at Rosemarkie during the Scottish Summer on the 7th July. Fortunately, the weather was fantastic, the sun shined all day and everyone who came along seemed to enjoy themselves and find time to relax. Meanwhile, I ran around making sure everyone was topping up on sun cream and keeping hydrated!

Our greatest thanks must be sent again to Helen, the owner of the Old Mill house by Rosemarkie beach and her friend Meg. A solid duo that have a natural aura about themselves to make everyone feel welcome and respected. Helen’s generous gesture of opening her home and garden to host a number of migrant and refugee families and various organisations and individuals was appreciated on so many levels! All ages attended from toddlers to teenagers and adults of various background. We hope that we can organise another event in the future to celebrate diversity, forge new friendships and, most importantly, have fun!

Over 100 people attended on the day, where Ivor the volunteer bus driver (later to be knighted ‘Ivor the driver’) offered his time to taxi people back and forth from the Dingwall and Alness areas. Thank you, Ivor, for making sure everyone was included and able to come along. The day was very relaxed with no specific activities organised. Nonetheless, people spent time swimming at the beach, playing in the garden and nearby football pitch, soaking up the sun and dancing to Syrian music. Lots of folk brought along garden games, arts and crafts materials and sports equipment to be shared among all. Lunch was loosely organised at around midday where everyone gathered in the garden and shared food as well as laughter, stories and the like.

Myself (Franci) and the team would like to thank everyone who contributed to making the Rosemarkie beach and garden day a success. One knock on positive, amongst many, from this event is that the Rosemarkie beach café have invested in one of the Syrian gentlemen as a supplier and friend to their café for the traditional Syrian baklava. Visit the café to sample the sweet delight!

We are excited that we will be back at Belladrum Festival again for a 3rd year, and we will be selling love locks & cloots which people can write on them with a special message and they will be tied to the heart structure. We will also have Betty Booth along side us this year who will be offering fun photos with props in their campervan, and will be asking for donation for this.

You can find us at outside the Chapel at the festival, from Thursday 2nd August - Saturday 4th August.

If you are going - come along and say hello!
