.: Birchwood Highland Recovery Centre
At the Recovery Centre we seek to provide an alternative to institutional care and look after the whole person, not just their diagnosis.
We welcome people to the Recovery Centre who really want to work with us towards their recovery, by building up skills, knowledge, support networks and confidence in themselves to move on successfully to their own accommodation in the community.
Extensive investment over the past year has seen the conversion of a number of single rooms into flats and studio apartments, the creation of a safe house / crisis bed for individuals needing to move to a safe place for a short period of time, and an upgrading of all facilities within the building.
The Recovery Centre can now accommodate up to 23 service users, who at any one time may represent a range of different ages, though new referrals tend to be of a younger age than was previously the case.
Our staff have experience in supporting adults in the following specialised areas:
Our aim is to assist people in the Recovery Centre to take control of their lives and move forward. We aim to achieve this through recovery ethos which develops positive self-esteem and self-image. The Recovery Centre programme that each of our service user will participate in reinforces this. Learning about practicing recovery is a basic part of the Recovery Centre experience.
Person-centred support plans are individually tailored to the service user to maximise their recovery. This includes:
We offer help in the following ways:
How to access our services
Most of our referrals currently come from the wards at New Craigs Hospital in Inverness. We also receive self-referrals and referrals through GPs, and we are open to applications from other areasd inthe Highlands, and from Community Mental Health teams.
We expect the referrer to give us Single Shared Assessment documentation to help us get started in planning support for a service user. References are also obtained from each prospective Recovery Centre service user in order to give us a better understanding of their current circumstances. This information then helps us to provide the service user with appropriate support.
