Run, walk or cycle for Birchwood

At Birchwood Highland we depend on fundraising and sponsorship to develop and improve our mental health services.

This means helping people build better lives for themselves, maintain independence and earn acceptance within their communities.

If you - or your friends or work colleagues - are taking part in running, walking or cycling events this summer, please consider choosing us as your charity.

The event centre will be on NTS ground at Morvich Farm (postcode IV40 8HQ), from which all routes will start and finish. The long route will be the 18 mile circuit of Beinn Fhada, with walkers going round clockwise and runners anti-clockwise; the intermediate route will be a 10 mile figure-of-eight towards the Glomach Falls area, involving strenuous ascent to over 1700 feet, and the easier 8 mile option will be an out and back route through spectacular Gleann Lichd alongside the meandering River Croe.

All three routes are highly scenic, surrounded by an array of Munros and Corbetts including the famous Five Sisters of Kintail range, and intermingled with wild glens, dramatic corries, secluded lochs and magnificent waterfalls.

Please visit the event website for more information, and contact Birchwood Highland (info@birchwoodhighland.org.uk, or tel 01463 236507) for sponsorship forms.

Marathon runner supports Birchwood

Congratulations to Fiona Macritchie for finishing in 289th place in the 2010 London Marathon (women's category), at 3:20:56 - almost 10 minutes quicker than her 2009 time.

Fiona is a partner in chartered accountancy firm Johnston Carmichael, whose Inverness office has chosen Birchwood Highland as their charity in 2009/10.

Fiona took part in her first marathon 2 years ago, when she and her sister competed in the New York Marathon. Whilst training for New York, she was successful in the ballot for London 2009, and finished in that event in an impressive 3:30:10.

So a big thank you to Fiona for running for Birchwood!

Events in 2010

Birchwood Highland sincerely thanks everyone who took part in competitive and endurance events in 2010 and raised funds on our behalf.

All funds raised will be used to promote independence, inclusion and recovery among our service users. The help that you give enables our Service User Groups to plan, organise and take part in a much wider range of activites than they otherwise would, and thus feel more included and confident among their peers and in the wider community.

For news about Baxter's Loch Ness Marathon and Festival of Running on 3rd October 2010 (Birchwood Highland is an associated charity), please visit the official website at http://www.lochnessmarathon.com/news/read.php?id=99

If you are thinking about taking part in any events in 2011, please keep us in mind!
